Dumaguete City as "The City of Gentle People" the pride of all Dumagueteños.It is the capital city of Negros Oriental with principal seaport and the largest in the province. Dumaguete comes from a visayan word "daggit" which means to snatch or kidnap.According to history, pirates came to the coastal town to kidnap young ladies.

That is why the place was first known as "Dumaguet". Thus,generations past then the word Dumaguete was formulated by Murillo Velarde in 1734.
Today Dumaguete is also known as the "University Town" the training ground in the field of Education with four major universities and a number of colleges. It is a mere fact that Dumaguetenos are well educated and also rich in anchestral heritage. Dumaguete's Historical Landmarks
The Dumaguete Belfry is the city's architectural landmark known as "The watch
tower". It was built in 1760s and 1870s to warn townfolks of attacks by marauding
pirates.
Rizal Boulevard the pride of Dumaguete. Named after our national hero, Jose Protacio
Rizal Mercado Alonzo y Realonda,it was remembered that he visited the place and had
a quick tour in dumaguete.Now,it's place where you will witness the rise of the sun,
